June 14 (UPI) — Honda announced on Wednesday that it is moving forward with the commercialization of its advanced HondaJet 2600 Concept aircraft.

The company stated in a press release that the new aircraft will go beyond the performance, comfort, and efficiency of typical light jets, offering a medium-sized jet experience.

The HondaJet 2600 was initially unveiled at the Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition. Honda aims to complete the type certification process for their new aircraft by 2028.

Type certification entails ensuring the aircraft’s airworthiness, compliance of its components with regulations, and adherence to acceptable emissions standards. Once the type certification process is finalized, the aircraft can proceed to serial production.

The HondaJet 2600, capable of being operated by a single pilot and accommodating 11 passengers, will incorporate elements of medium jet functionality and design, according to Honda.

Compared to typical light jets, the 2600 will provide 20% higher fuel efficiency and a 40% increase in fuel efficiency over medium jet models.

Honda stated that the HondaJet 2600 Concept will be the first light jet capable of nonstop transcontinental flights across the United States.

Honda Aircraft Co. has entrusted partner companies with the manufacturing of key components.

Williams International will build the aircraft’s engines, Spirit Aerosystems will handle the fuselage construction, Aernnova will be responsible for creating the aerostructures, and Garmin will produce the avionics.

“The commercialization of our new light jet represents Honda’s next chapter of skyward mobility, which further expands the potential of people’s lives,” said Hideto Yamaski, President and CEO of Honda Aircraft Co.
