Hinterland Music Festival: A more affordable and enjoyable alternative to Lollapalooza

  • Instead of attending Lollapalooza, I decided to go to the Hinterland Music Festival.
  • Hinterland had a lineup that included some of the same artists as Lollapalooza, but the passes were more affordable.
  • Hinterland offered a pleasant atmosphere, smaller crowds, and reasonably priced refreshments.

Instead of joining the bustling crowds at Lollapalooza, I made the choice to attend the Hinterland Music Festival in Iowa.

Up until recently, I wasn’t even aware of the Hinterland Festival. It’s a three-day event that features indie, soul, and country music, and is known for attracting top-tier headliners. This year, it took place from August 4 to August 6, overlapping with Lollapalooza’s dates of August 3 to August 6.

The cost of a three-day pass to Hinterland was $250 before fees, making it a more affordable option compared to the four-day general-admission passes for Lollapalooza, which initially sold for approximately $365 before fees.

Having attended numerous music festivals and events in major cities worldwide, I can confidently say that this weekend at Hinterland was one of the highlights of my summer and provided me with an exceptional music experience.

Here’s why I am already planning to return next year.
