Nowadays, I rarely find the need to use a debit or credit card to make payments. Unless I’m at a restaurant, I simply use my iPhone to conveniently make transactions by hovering it over the payment system at any store I visit.

However, in this swift motion of hovering your phone over the payment terminal, your iPhone automatically charges the default card that appears on your device. If necessary, you can always swipe to select a different one, but this adds an extra step.

Recently, a colleague of mine discovered fraudulent charges on his credit card and had to get it replaced. Consequently, he also had to change the default card in his Apple Wallet.

Although the process is quite straightforward, the option to choose a default card is somewhat hidden. So, if you encounter a similar situation or simply want to change the card you’re using, here’s what you need to do:

  • Open the settings on your iPhone.
  • Select “Wallet & Apple Pay”.
  • Scroll down to the “Transaction Defaults” section and find “Default Card”.
  • Choose the card you want Apple Pay to use.

That’s it! Now, whenever you use Apple Pay for a purchase, it will automatically utilize the newly selected card.
