He Stole From Her, Then Messaged Her on Facebook

Receiving friend requests on Facebook from people we don’t want to accept is a common occurrence. However, for a woman in Indiana, her wariness escalated when the man who allegedly robbed her at gunpoint insisted she add him on the social network, and later messaged her to hang out. According to police, 21-year-old Amber Beraun recounts to the Washington Post that after returning home from delivering pizzas on May 8, she was checking her mailbox when an armed man approached her. Instead of handing over her keys, Beraun offered him the $100 she had earned in tips during her shift, which he accepted.

Beraun also offered the man a pizza she had brought home, but he declined. He then made a rather unusual request—he asked her to add him as a friend on Facebook. Beraun agreed and added him on the social platform, after which the man fled on his bike. Beraun tells WRTV that she thought adding him on Facebook would make him leave, and it did. However, a few hours later, she received a message from the man identified as 31-year-old Damien Boyce. In the message, he stated that Beraun was “too pretty to rob” and promised to pay her back, as reported by the Post.

Boyce then invited Beraun to “come chill” with him, but she politely declined, stating that she had a boyfriend. Beraun sought refuge at her boyfriend’s home and he urged her to contact the police. After more than a month of investigation, Boyce was arrested on June 11 at the scene of another reported robbery in Indianapolis, according to FOX59. He has been charged with armed robbery and illegal possession of a handgun related to Beraun’s case. Boyce is currently being held on a $7,500 bond, with his next court date scheduled for Wednesday, as stated in Indy100. (Read more armed robbery stories.)
