Haley Criticizes Ramaswamy’s Stance on Reducing Aid to Israel

Nikki Haley, a Republican presidential candidate and former South Carolina Gov., voiced her criticism towards fellow GOP hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy on Monday in response to his recent comments supporting the reduction of financial aid to Israel in the coming years.

Ramaswamy expressed his desire to expand the Abraham Accords, which resulted in the normalization of Israel’s relations with some Arab countries. He believes that by 2028, when the current aid package is set to expire, additional aid for Israel will no longer be necessary.

Haley released a statement stating that Ramaswamy’s call to sever the “special bond” between the United States and Israel is entirely misguided. She highlighted the moral and strategic importance of supporting Israel and affirmed that she would never abandon the country if elected as president.

Throughout her career, including her tenure as ambassador to the United Nations under the Trump administration, Haley consistently emphasized her support for Israel. She staunchly defended the U.S.-Israel relationship to other member countries of the U.N.

In the interview, Ramaswamy acknowledged the benefits of the U.S.-Israel relationship and expressed his commitment to honoring existing commitments. However, he stressed the need for Israel to be more integrated into the rest of the Middle East region. Ramaswamy proposed negotiations for an “Abraham Accords 2.0,” involving countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Indonesia, to further strengthen Israel’s position.

The original accords included the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, with Sudan and Morocco joining later on.

Ramaswamy argued that expanding the accords would lead to stability in the Middle East, making additional aid unnecessary by 2028. He emphasized the importance of integrating Israel with its regional partners. In his view, the region should not become hostage to the Palestinian conflict.

Haley took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to criticize Ramaswamy’s proposal, stating that it is part of a consistent pattern of policies that diminish U.S. security.

Haley’s criticism comes as she, Ramaswamy, and other GOP candidates prepare for their first presidential debate on Wednesday.
