Guns N’ Roses Gratefully Thank Fans for Inviting Them as They Begin Their Debut at Glastonbury

On Saturday night, the band wasted no time in igniting the crowds with an electrifying performance. Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan, the original members of Guns N’ Roses, captivated the audience with hit songs like “Bad Obsession,” “Chinese Democracy,” and “Slither.” The exhilarating show marked their reunion in 2015.

Fans adorned themselves in Slash’s iconic top hat, dark glasses, and long black hair wigs, and exploded with excitement as the legendary guitarist began the famous opening riff of their renowned track, “Welcome To The Jungle.” Axl Rose, with a slight alteration in the lyrics, belted out, “Do you know where you are? You’re in the jungle, Glastonbury!”

Speaking to the eager crowd, Rose expressed his gratitude for the invitation to perform. He said, “How you doing? We’d like to thank you for inviting us – thank you.” Amidst cheers, Rose assured fans that his absence from interacting with them was not an act of cowardice. He clarified, “I can only walk so far because if I walk out here, I can only hear the crowd, I can’t hear the band. I’m not trying to wuss out.”

Guns N’ Roses’ captivating two-hour-plus set closed out the fifth day at Worthy Farm in Somerset. The festival had already witnessed remarkable performances from other big names like Lizzo, Lewis Capaldi, and The Pretenders.

Lizzo took the stage right before Guns N’ Roses, delivering a high-energy set brimming with her trademark messages of diversity, inclusion, and body-positivity. Expressing her gratitude, Lizzo emotionally thanked her fans for accompanying her on her journey to the Glastonbury mainstage. She showcased three eye-catching outfits, transitioning from a pink and black tasseled jumpsuit to a shiny pink ensemble and finally donning a shimmering golden dress.

Scottish superstar Lewis Capaldi, despite battling voice issues, powered through an emotional performance on the mainstage. After the show, Capaldi revealed that he plans to take some time off to rest and recover. He treated his adoring fans to a collection of his hit tracks and even bared his chest on stage.

Rick Astley also made his Glastonbury debut, opening the Pyramid Stage with his hit song “Together Forever.” The 57-year-old singer impressed the audience with his drumming skills, delivering a fabulous rendition of AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell.” Astley’s set included both old favorites and new material from his upcoming album.

Tilda Swinton and Max Richter offered a delightful combination of spoken word and classical music on the Park stage, while Labour’s Ed Miliband participated in a panel discussion on climate action.

Overall, Glastonbury’s fifth day was filled with unforgettable performances from renowned artists, leaving the crowd exhilarated and eager for more.
