Grab Philippines demonstrates commitment to economic empowerment by providing full-ride scholarships to deserving Filipino students

The leading superapp, Grab Philippines, has teamed up with PHINMA Education and BagoSphere to champion inclusive access to education. To celebrate the first year of its GrabScholar program, Grab awarded full-ride college scholarships to six deserving students. The program was launched earlier this year to empower underprivileged Filipino students to continue their education.

The GrabScholar Program, in collaboration with PHINMA Education and BagoSphere, offers various opportunities to GrabScholars. This includes full-ride college scholarships, bursary support for elementary and high school students, and a career acceleration program for aspiring Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) professionals.

The selection process for the scholarships was rigorous, considering family background, academic records, and financial need. Candidates also underwent interviews where they shared their aspirations and motivations.

One of the scholars, Cesario Cabuello III, had to stop studying due to financial difficulties. He believes that education is the key to success and values the opportunities the GrabScholar program provides. Another scholar, Adrian Ortega, works as a Grab delivery-partner and recognizes the importance of education in achieving success.

All of the scholars are determined to succeed academically and in their future careers to improve the lives of their families. Jasmine Nicanor, pursuing a Financial Management Degree, applied for the scholarship to ease their family’s expenses and support her older brother, a GrabFood delivery-partner. John Lloyd Villa, an English major, hopes to pursue a Masters and PhD after college to become a future educator.

The scholars appreciate the value of receiving a scholarship and are grateful for Grab’s support. Jessa Mae Tabires, a part-time call center employee, sees this opportunity as a stepping stone to becoming a professional licensed teacher. Mary Flor Valerie Full had to pause her studies to take care of her father with cancer and is grateful for the help provided by Grab Philippines.

GrabScholar, along with its partners PHINMA Education and BagoSphere, aims to continue offering opportunities for more scholars in the future. The application process for the next cycle of GrabScholars is now open. Interested applicants can visit Grab Philippines’ official website for more information.
