GOP Governor Urges Candidates to ‘Distance Themselves’ from Trump

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has called on Republican candidates to distance themselves from Donald Trump following the first GOP presidential debate. Despite Trump’s absence from the debate stage, Sununu commended the candidates for ignoring him and declared that they should “take it to him.” While he does not advocate for attacking Trump like Chris Christie, Sununu believes candidates should find their own ways to separate themselves from the former president. He praised Nikki Haley for doing so effectively. Sununu also encouraged candidates to break free from Trump’s drama and go on the offensive before the debate. He believes that Trump would lose in a scenario with fewer candidates and that the Republican Party can move forward without him. Sununu, a vocal Trump critic, emphasized the importance of winning elections and questioned why they should expect a different result with Trump after previous losses. Currently, Trump holds a significant lead over other GOP candidates in national polls.
