During a Q&A on her Instagram Stories, Paltrow addressed the thought process behind the vagina candle,
considering the curiosity surrounding it.
Paltrow stated, “This is a great question. The infamous candle was designed as a strong feminist statement.”
She further explained, “Many women, especially those of my generation, have been conditioned to feel there’s something
wrong with themselves or that the vagina is strange, disgusting, or a source of shame.”
Paltrow emphasized, “The candle was meant to be a bold, punk rock expression against those who ever made us feel that way.
It wasn’t supposed to smell like anyone’s actual vagina. It had the scent of roses and various other fragrances, and that was the intention.”
The media’s interpretation of the candle deviated from Paltrow’s intended message, which disappointed her.
Paltrow remarked, “Unfortunately, the media tends to twist things and focus on clickbait. They tried to make it about something else,
which is a shame because it was truly meant as a powerful feminist statement.”
