A German Shepherd named Magic, who endured a headshot wound and underwent multiple reparative surgeries, has finally found his forever home.
The Kentucky Human Society (KHS) revealed that on January 17, Magic was rescued by the Louisville Metro Animal Services. The bullet entered his head above his eye, passed through his nasal cavity, and ultimately broke his jaw.
After months of dedicated care from his foster mama and the KHS staff member, Ally, Magic’s adoption was announced by KHS on Facebook on August 10. They expressed gratitude to Ally for playing a crucial role in Magic’s physical and emotional healing, emphasizing that she had tirelessly contributed to his recovery from the cruelty he suffered.
The KHS statement mentioned that emergency surgery was performed to close Magic’s wounds, remove bone and teeth fragments, and repair his tongue. During his healing, Magic had to be fed baby food through a syringe.
Magic had the opportunity to meet his current family through a “foster first” option, which allowed them 14 days to bond with him before finalizing the adoption. It quickly became evident that they had fallen in love with Magic, leading to the official adoption.
The KHS bade farewell to Magic in their Facebook post, acknowledging the bittersweet nature of the goodbye. They expressed their pride in being part of Magic’s remarkable journey and wished him well in his forever home.
Alisa Gray, the President and CEO of KHS, expressed her honor in being able to assist in Magic’s rescue. She highlighted the trust Magic exhibited in the KHS staff and the support received from the Louisville community, emphasizing the resilience, forgiveness, and love that animals like Magic possess.
