Gavin Newsom Addresses 2024 Presidential Run Speculation, Easing Curiosity and Expectations

California Governor Gavin Newsom addresses speculation about his potential presidential run in 2024, urging people to move past this discussion. (Watch his remarks in the video below.)

In an interview with Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press,” the Democratic governor emphasized that Vice President Kamala Harris is the natural choice if President Joe Biden decides not to run for a second term. Newsom shared his perspective on the “Today” show, asserting, “I think the vice president is naturally the one lined up, and the filing deadlines are quickly coming to pass, and I think we need to move past this notion that he’s not going to run.”

Newsom’s comments come after a recently released CNN poll that revealed 76% of Americans have serious concerns about Joe Biden’s age (80) potentially affecting his ability to serve a full second term as president. Biden, however, addressed these concerns in a light-hearted manner, jokingly stating at a Philadelphia event, “the only thing that comes with age is a little bit of wisdom.”

During the interview with Todd, Newsom expressed confidence in Biden’s candidacy for 2024, stating, “I think there’s been so much wallowing in the last few months and hand-wringing in this respect. But we’re gearing up for the campaign. We’re looking forward to it.” Todd further probed Newsom, asking what he’d say to donors who are dwelling on this matter. Newsom simply replied, “Time to move on. Let’s go.”
