Garden Grove Fatal Shooting Results in 40-Year Prison Sentence

A young man, aged 21, has been given a 40-year-to-life prison sentence after fatally shooting another man at a Garden Grove hotel two years ago.

The convicted individual, Enrique Torres, was found guilty in March of second-degree murder. He received sentencing enhancements for using a firearm to cause significant bodily harm or death, as well as for personal firearm use. The incident occurred on January 17, 2021, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel located at 11999 Harbor Blvd. The victim was 28-year-old Eddie Barajas from Stanton.

According to Deputy District Attorney Stephen Cornwell, Barajas and his friends visited the hotel around 3:40 a.m. that morning to attend a party. There, they became involved in a verbal altercation with Agustin Cortez and Torres.
