June 22 (UPI) — Freddie Freeman smashed a 426-foot home run off Shohei Ohtani, and a collective effort from the Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitching staff resulted in a dominant victory over the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, Calif.

“Bullpen games are exceptionally challenging,” said Freeman, who went 1 for 4 on Wednesday at Angel Stadium. “I think they did an incredible job. Sometimes off days are beneficial, and [Monday] was a good off day for us.”

Ohtani surrendered five hits and one run, issuing two walks and tallying 12 strikeouts over seven innings. He also went 0 for 3 at the plate.

Apart from infielder Luis Rengifo, who went 2 for 3, the Angels’ lineup went hitless in the game.

Ohtani retired Mookie Betts, Freeman, and catcher Will Smith in order during the first inning. He allowed only one baserunner through the first three innings.

In the top of the fourth, Freeman broke the deadlock. After fouling off the first pitch from Ohtani, Freeman crushed an 85.4-mph cutter to center field for a 106-mph solo homer.

The Dodgers’ pitchers held the Angels to one hit, a double by Rengifo, through the first four innings. Rengifo also hit a single in the bottom of the fifth, which became the Angels’ final hit of the game.

Relief pitchers Jacob Webb and Aaron Loup took over for Ohtani on the mound in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. In Loup’s second exchange, Dodgers second baseman Miguel Vargas hit a 383-foot solo shot to right center, securing the final run of the game.

Dodgers starter Brusdar Graterol didn’t allow a hit or run in his two innings of work, but didn’t receive credit for a decision. Victor Gonzalez, Yency Almonte, Alex Vesia, Ryan Brasier, Caleb Ferguson, and Evan Phillips combined to pitch the remaining innings without allowing a hit or run.

Jason Heyward, Dodgers outfielder, went 2 for 2 with a walk. Vargas went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Angels (41-35) will face the Colorado Rockies (29-48) at 8:40 p.m. EDT Friday in Denver, while the Dodgers (41-33) will host the Houston Astros (41-34) at 10:10 p.m. Friday in Los Angeles.
