Former FBI Agent Robert Hanssen, Who Committed Espionage for Russia, Passes Away in Prison.

Former FBI agent Robert Hanssen, known for one of the most significant spying cases in American history, passed away in prison on Monday. Hanssen, who had been serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole since 2002, had divulged millions of dollars worth of classified national security information to the Soviet Union and later Russia. He pled guilty to 15 counts of espionage and other charges after being caught taping secrets to the underside of a park footbridge in a “dead drop” for his Russian handlers. Hanssen passed away at a federal prison in Colorado, believed to have died of natural causes, according to a person familiar with the matter.
