In response to the situation, Parish president Jaclyn Hotard issued an emergency declaration and mandatory evacuation order for residents in the affected area. The evacuation order was lifted around 2pm local time.
Some local schools implemented shelter-in-place procedures. Marathon Petroleum stated that the fire is under control but has caused damage to two tanks on the refinery’s property. The company is prioritizing the safety of its employees, contractors, and the surrounding community.
