A probationer implicated in the distribution of a lethal dose of fentanyl to an 18-year-old resident of Moreno Valley has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.
Moisses Haro, a 20-year-old from Moreno Valley, was arrested on October 20, 2022, following an extensive investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Initially facing a second-degree murder charge, Haro was ultimately found guilty of voluntary manslaughter.
In the early morning hours of April 6, 2022, patrol deputies were called to a residence in the 22000 block of Downing Street, near Towngate Boulevard, after reports of an unconscious man.
Deputies and paramedics arrived promptly and discovered the deceased individual, Juan Jose Villasenor.
According to Sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Marcuse, an autopsy later revealed that fentanyl poisoning was the cause of death. Detectives from the Central Homicide Unit took over the case and eventually gathered enough evidence to identify Haro as the individual responsible for selling the fentanyl that led to Villasenor’s death, Marcuse stated.
The nature of the relationship between Haro and the victim has not been disclosed.
Haro was apprehended without incident at his residence on Rotuberry Drive.
Court records reveal that Haro has prior convictions for assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a gun, driving under the influence, and reckless driving.
