FC Barcelona Coach Xavi Praises Epic Celta Vigo Comeback, Applauding Team’s Outstanding Performance

Xavi Hernandez, the coach of FC Barcelona, showered his players with praise after a momentous 3-2 comeback win against Celta Vigo that propelled the team to the top of the La Liga standings.

Despite fatigue and sluggish performances due to three games in just seven days, Xavi’s squad managed to reach the same “highest level” demonstrated during consecutive 5-0 triumphs over Real Betis and Royal Antwerp in November 2021.

When Anastasios Douvikas scored in the 76th minute, doubling Celta Vigo’s lead, it seemed that the Blaugrana were defeated and without hope.

However, Robert Lewandowski and his teammates had a different plan. The Polish striker netted goals in the 81st and 85th minutes, followed by Joao Cancelo’s 89th-minute winner, igniting the Montjuic Stadium with jubilation.

After the final whistle, Xavi credited his players for the incredible “remontada” (comeback) and emphasized the importance of their belief and teamwork.

While acknowledging their courage and belief, Xavi also pointed out that his team appeared “very disorganized” during the match and called for a thorough analysis of their performance.

Highlighting their determination, Xavi emphasized that Barca took risks by playing with only two defenders when the situation seemed dire. Towards the end of the game, they even had two right wingers, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, occupying the same position on the field.

The hero of the evening, right back Joao Cancelo, showed exceptional attacking prowess despite feeling unsatisfied with his overall performance.

Reflecting on the game, Cancelo admitted his mistakes but commended his effort in contributing to the comeback.

He expressed the importance of winning, even if the team played poorly, and candidly acknowledged his technical errors during the match, which deviated from his usual standard.

Cancelo confessed that he felt lost during the game and recognized the significance of continuing to give his all to earn the love and support of Barca and its fans.

With the victory secured, Cancelo concluded that there is room for improvement but emphasized the importance of the three points. FC Barcelona now has six days of rest before facing Sevilla in their next home match.
