Fantasy Football Drafts: Steer Clear of Kupp, Barkley, Prescott, and More

Cooper Kupp, Saquon Barkley, and Dak Prescott are among 11 players in fantasy football that should be avoided this year due to various reasons such as tough schedules and inconsistent supporting casts. While Kupp is still considered a top pass catcher in the NFL and could provide value for fantasy football teams, it is advised to wait until the second round to select him. Currently, Kupp is the fourth wide receiver selected in drafts, behind Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tyreek Hill. It is recommended to consider selecting these wide receivers, as well as some running backs, before Kupp.

Rankings for quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends, as well as the top 200 players, are available for preparation, and will be updated for injuries and other developments.

In terms of Kupp specifically, he is ranked outside of the top 14 in the top 200 fantasy football rankings. While Kupp has returned from a hamstring injury and remains a stellar option in the Rams’ offense, it is preferred to draft wide receivers from dominant offenses with premier quarterbacks. The Rams may not possess these traits in 2023, and Kupp is expected to face tough matchups. The Rams’ schedule includes seven games against teams that allowed the fewest fantasy points to wide receivers, and just two matchups against teams that allowed the most fantasy points. Additionally, the Rams have a weak offensive line, particularly in terms of pass-blocking, further decreasing Kupp’s outlook.

Moving on to Saquon Barkley, although he had an impressive season in 2022 with a career-high 1,312 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, it is recommended to avoid selecting him in the top 10 of fantasy football drafts. The Giants’ offensive line is expected to be one of the worst in the league, and their schedule includes eight matchups against teams that allowed the fewest points to running backs. Barkley received a high number of carries last season and is entering a contract year, which increases the risk of injury. With a lack of other playmakers on the Giants’ roster, a brutal schedule, and limited upside, it is advised to pass on Barkley early in the draft.

CeeDee Lamb, despite his impressive performance last season, is projected to have a decline in statistics in 2023 due to a tough schedule and low expectations for the Cowboys’ offense. The addition of Brandin Cooks and the lack of favorable matchups against teams that allowed the most points to wide receivers further contribute to the risk of selecting Lamb early. It is recommended to target Lamb as a high-end WR2 rather than rely on him to carry the team.

Jonathan Taylor, while still a member of the Indianapolis Colts at the time of writing, comes with some uncertainty due to a potential trade or unfavorable situation in the upcoming season. If he remains with the Colts, his productivity is expected to continue, but the Colts have a tough schedule with limited favorable matchups for running backs.

Dak Prescott, despite being picked before other quarterbacks in many drafts, may not provide consistent production due to the overall inconsistency of the Cowboys’ offense. With limited matchups against teams that allowed the most points to quarterbacks, it is advised to seek other options at the position.

James Cook of the Buffalo Bills could still be productive but should only be selected for depth or as a streaming play in fantasy football drafts. The Bills have a difficult schedule and a crowded backfield, which may limit Cook’s opportunities.

Lastly, D’Andre Swift of the Philadelphia Eagles will face a tough schedule with limited favorable matchups for running backs. It is advised to approach Swift with caution in fantasy football drafts.
