The opulent estate of a struggling billionaire has finally been sold.
Situated on Sutton Square in the eastern part of Manhattan, this mansion-sized house has been on and off the market for the past seven years, but that’s no longer the case.
According to a deed that was recently filed in the city register, Crain’s was the first to report that the former residence of Guy Wildenstein sold on August 21 for $26.1 million.
Wildenstein, a member of the family dynasty behind the art firm Wildenstein & Co., purchased the 9,600-square-foot townhouse for about $33 million in 2008. He first listed it for around $40 million in 2016, and the recent sale represents a $6.9 million loss.
The buyer, identified as a shell company named Zhun Square, is linked to a couple named Yang Gui and Yang Lu from Westchester County, according to Crain’s.
In addition to owning some of New York City’s most expensive real estate, the Wildenstein family has attracted attention over the years due to tax issues that ended up in court and the sensational life and real estate of Guy’s brother Alec’s ex-wife, Jocelyn “Catwoman” Wildenstein.
Wildenstein & Co. did not respond immediately to The Post’s request for comment.
Located on Sutton Square, between East 58th and 59th Streets, overlooking the FDR Drive and the East River, the mansion features a Georgian-style facade and consists of 16 rooms built around a rotunda with a spiral filigree staircase under a glass dome.
The property includes an elevator, parquet de Versailles hardwood floors, bullet-proof windows, a kitchen with a dumbwaiter, a dining terrace, and an upper deck with panoramic views of the skyline, according to a listing by Serhant.
