HANGZHOU, China—In a rainy Thursday at the Fuyang Water Sports Center, rowers Edgar Ilas and Zuriel Sumintac narrowly missed qualifying for the medal race in the lightweight men’s double sculls. They finished third in the repechage, just six seconds behind second-placers Masayuki Miyaura and Masahiro Takeda of Japan. The gold medal for the 2,000-meter distance went to Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh of India.

Only the top two finishers in the repechage will move on to the medal race.

Lady rowers Feiza Jane Lenton and Kharl Sha also fell short of reaching the finals in the lightweight women’s double sculls. They finished fourth in their race, with Luizakhon Islomova and Malika Tagmatova of Uzbekistan taking first place.

On a brighter note, Cris Nievarez, who previously competed in the Tokyo Olympics, advanced to the semifinals in the men’s single sculls after finishing third in his heat. Joanie Delgaco, a gold medalist in the Southeast Asian Games, also made it to the semis by placing second in the first heat of the women’s single sculls.
