A mesmerizing drone show took place at St James’ Park prior to Newcastle’s game against PSG on Wednesday night. This game marks the long-awaited return of Champions League football to the ground after over 20 years, making it an incredibly special occasion for the Magpies.

Newcastle started their European campaign with a commendable 0-0 draw against last season’s losing semi-finalists, AC Milan, at the San Siro two weeks ago. However, this week poses an even tougher challenge as they face PSG, a team with an expensive squad including superstar Kylian Mbappe, who secured a 2-0 victory in their first group game.

The fans, as well as the players, were welcomed by an impressive drone show from sponsors Sela before the game. The show featured the sponsor’s logo, player shirts including Sandro Tonali and Kieran Trippier, and the iconic Magpies badge. Sela has been meticulously going through run-throughs of the show to ensure a flawless display during the main event.

Some lucky supporters were treated to a sneak peek of what was to come during a show on Sunday evening, where 500 drones formed the words ‘we’re back’ and a Newcastle shirt image. Two more shows were held on Monday night. The anticipation continued to build until the main showing took place in the evening, capturing the attention of all.

‘We wanted to create a thrilling surprise for the fans, celebrating the return of the biggest nights in European football to St James’ Park,’ said Ibrahim Mohtaseb, Senior Vice President of Sela. ‘The fans, the club, and the players deserve these remarkable moments, and I hope we’ve added to what will be an unforgettable occasion for everyone who loves Newcastle United and this city.’

‘Creating breathtaking experiences is at the core of what Sela does every day as a company, and we’re excited to contribute to more memorable moments throughout this landmark season,’ Mohtaseb added.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed his excitement about the atmosphere at the game. ‘We’re determined to do well, and I’m certain that the atmosphere will be the best I’ve ever experienced here,’ Howe said. ‘I know the supporters will rally behind us, and our performance will depend on what happens afterwards. We’re eagerly anticipating the extreme test that awaits us.’
