Ex-Woman Claims $1.2 Billion Victory in Revenge-Porn Lawsuit Against Former Partner

  • A Texas woman was awarded more than $1 billion by a jury in a revenge-porn case.
  • According to court documents, the woman’s ex posted intimate images on Facebook, Twitter, and Pornhub.
  • The ex-boyfriend also shared links to the explicit content with her friends, family, and coworkers.

A Texas woman, identified as Jane Doe in legal documents, has been awarded over a billion dollars by a jury in a revenge-porn case, surpassing the amount requested by her attorneys, as reported by local news outlet KHOU 11.

Jane Doe had a four-year relationship with a man named Jamal Jackson Marques, which ended in 2021. Following the breakup, Marques engaged in a campaign of harassment by sharing intimate photos and videos on various online platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, and Pornhub, according to her attorney Bradford J. Glide.

In an interview with ABC 13, the woman expressed the devastating impact of the experience, stating, “Every day was me, wake up, I’m checking, I’m trying to prevent it, I’m trying to constrain it.”

Court documents revealed that Jane Doe had initially consented to privately sharing some intimate photos with her ex-boyfriend. However, she explicitly and implicitly communicated that they were not to be shared with anyone else. Despite this, Marques distributed the private photos and videos by uploading them to multiple online platforms, often including identifying information such as her name and address.

In addition to sharing the explicit material, Marques went further by secretly accessing Jane Doe’s mom’s home security system to spy on her using its audio and visual features, as detailed in court documents.

The woman’s attorneys have not yet responded to Insider’s request for comment, and Marques could not be reached for comment.

The evidence presented in court, along with statements by her attorney to ABC 13, demonstrated Marques’ extensive efforts to share the private material. He created fake profiles on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, and sent messages and emails containing hyperlinks to Jane Doe’s acquaintances. He also established a public website with an attached Dropbox folder containing intimate images, and created a fake page impersonating her on Pornhub, according to court documents.

Furthermore, Marques tagged Jane Doe’s workplace and gym on social media, directing them to links featuring the explicit content.

“His purpose is to ruin her,” stated the woman’s attorney, Gilde.

In addition to these actions, Marques gained unauthorized access to Jane Doe’s bank account, using her funds to cover his own expenses while subjecting her to relentless calls and messages from undisclosed phone numbers.

In 2015, Texas enacted a law which made it a felony to share intimate photos or videos of someone without their consent. The law was updated in 2019 to specifically include the intent of causing harm to the individual.

The jury deliberated for just 30 minutes before reaching a verdict. Jane Doe was awarded $1.2 billion, surpassing the requested amount of $1 billion. However, it is unlikely that she will receive the full amount.

Despite this, her attorney Jacob Schiffer emphasized that the ruling sends a powerful message: “Do not mess with Texas and do not mess with Texas women.”
