Ex-Donald Trump Attorney Chooses Retirement Instead of Confronting Disbarment

Lin Wood, the lawyer who repeatedly challenged the 2020 presidential election results on behalf of Donald Trump, has submitted a request for retirement amidst the legal actions against him, which may include disbarment. In a letter to the State Bar of Georgia, as reported by Rolling Stone, Wood requested retired status, acknowledging the two pending disciplinary proceedings. This retirement marks the end of his legal career, and he is barred from practicing law in any state or jurisdiction, with no possibility of readmission.

The Georgia bar’s website now shows Wood as retired, with no disciplinary infractions listed on his record. According to a Bar spokesperson, the two complaints against Wood have been dismissed. The Office of General Counsel, in a court filing, stated that their goals of disciplinary action have been achieved, which include protecting the public and the integrity of the judiciary. Wood may face disciplinary actions in other states for his false claims about the election.

Trump initially praised Wood, but his organization did not fully support the lawyer’s work. Lawsuits attempting to overturn the election results were unsuccessful in the courts. Wood and other Trump lawyers were sanctioned by a Michigan judge in 2021, and a Michigan watchdog agency filed a complaint seeking disciplinary action for misconduct. Wood has not yet responded to requests for comment on his retirement.
