ESPN Analyst’s Condition Improves Following On-Air Collapse

Over the weekend, a frightening incident occurred during a live broadcast from California’s Rose Bowl, involving two ESPN announcers. Just moments before the kickoff of a friendly match between AC Milan and Real Madrid, former West Ham and Newcastle United goalie and current ESPN analyst, Shaka Hislop, collapsed on air while conversing with co-host Dan Thomas. In a video shared by the New York Post Sports, Hislop can be seen seemingly smiling and listening to Thomas’ coverage when he suddenly loses balance, staggering backward and then lurching forward before hitting Thomas and falling to the ground.

“Shak!” Thomas shouts in alarm, immediately requesting assistance for his 54-year-old colleague. The broadcast then cuts to a commercial break, described as a “terrifying scene” by Yahoo Sports. Soon after, Thomas confirms on Twitter that Hislop is conscious and receiving medical attention. Approximately an hour later, Thomas goes on air during halftime to provide further details. “As it stands, the news is positive,” he states, explaining that Hislop is awake and able to communicate. Thomas mentions that Hislop feels somewhat embarrassed about the incident and has apologized profusely. He also mentions that ESPN has been in touch with Hislop’s wife, and things seem to be progressing well. The cause of the collapse remains unknown, although CNN reports that the temperature in Pasadena was around 86 degrees Fahrenheit that evening.
