Dutch Soap Opera Star Acquires Alfred Hitchcock’s Iconic Home in $8.8M Deal

The luxurious Los Angeles mansion that was once the residence of a renowned director has found a new owner.

Reinout Oerlemans, a Dutch soap opera star, has purchased the Bel Air estate where Alfred Hitchcock lived with his wife and daughter until his death at the age of 80 in 1980.

According to Robb Report, the impressive property, which is located near the prestigious Bel Air Country Club, was sold for $8.8 million, exceeding its $8.25 million price tag by $550,000.

The architectural design of the compound is based on English country homes and was created by Carlton Burgess. Hitchcock, who was born in the UK, purchased the property shortly after its completion in 1942.

This Bel Air mansion was not the first property owned by the legendary director in California. After moving to Los Angeles in 1939, Hitchcock rented various houses before buying a 200-acre estate in the Santa Cruz Mountains before acquiring this Bel Air residence.

The mansion now officially belongs to Oerlemans, who is also the founder of the production company Eyeworks. However, the house has been extensively renovated and expanded since Hitchcock’s death in 1980.

Today, the four-bedroom, five-bathroom dwelling spans over 7,500 square feet and offers amenities such as an outdoor fireplace, a swimming pool, a three-car garage, additional parking space, and multiple storage buildings on the property.

Inside the mansion, one can find a living room with a fireplace, an eat-in kitchen with hand-painted tiles, a primary suite with an ensuite bath and two dressing areas, a front entry with a fountain, and abundant vegetation along the perimeter that ensures privacy.

Property records do not reveal the exact amount paid by the previous owners, who were a couple. However, it is confirmed that they lived in the mansion since at least 2000 and have since passed away, as reported by Mansion Global.
