DJ Moore and Justin Fields Dominate as Chicago Bears Seal 40-20 Victory against Washington Commanders

Justin Fields showcased his skills once again, throwing four touchdown passes in back-to-back games. He completed 15 of 29 passes for 282 yards, with no turnovers and a passer rating of 125.3. In addition, Fields rushed for 57 yards on 11 carries.

Coach Matt Eberflus praised DJ Moore’s standout performance, stating, “DJ Moore’s going to be a big story. You saw his exceptional skills and talent on display today. Justin did a great job of connecting with him. It was really impressive.”

The defense played a crucial role, recording a season-high of five sacks and forcing two takeaways.

This outstanding performance would have surely pleased Bears Hall of Fame middle linebacker Dick Butkus, who unfortunately passed away prior to the game.

The Bears (1-4) dominated both offensively and defensively in the first half. They scored on all five possessions, with Fields throwing three touchdown passes. Defensively, they only allowed 84 yards and didn’t give up a first down until the Bears had secured a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter.

In the second half, the Commanders made a comeback, outscoring the Bears 17-3 and narrowing the gap to 30-20 early in the fourth quarter. However, Moore sealed the win with an incredible play, leaping over cornerback Kendall Fuller to catch a 56-yard pass from Fields and running down the left sideline.

Coach Eberflus expressed his admiration for Moore’s athleticism, stating, “I was right there on the sideline; I witnessed it myself. He’s simply an amazing athlete, the way he catches and maintains his focus. Despite the defender’s attempt to intercept, Moore’s concentration is outstanding. He consistently displays these skills, working diligently every day. He sets a great example as both a talented player and our hardest worker.”

The Bears ended their 14-game losing streak with this victory, dating back to the previous year.

Coach Eberflus commended the team’s unity during difficult times, saying, “The guys showed remarkable strength and togetherness in the face of adversity. We were able to do that because of the strong relationships we’ve built within the team. Our players have always been close-knit, determined, and extremely enthusiastic.”

The Bears took an early 7-0 lead with Fields’ 20-yard touchdown pass to Moore in the left corner of the end zone on third-and-14. This scoring drive covered 75 yards in 6 plays, highlighted by Fields’ 58-yard completion to Moore on third-and-9 from the Chicago 26.

The defense followed up by forcing a three-and-out, as Andrew Billings tackled running back Brian Robinson for a one-yard loss on third-and-one from the Commanders’ 34.

The Bears extended their lead to 10-0 with Cairo Santos’ 22-yard field goal. The kick came after Khalil Herbert’s impressive 34-yard run to the Washington 13. Herbert made an exceptional move, faking out cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. on the play.

In the first quarter, the Bears dominated with a significant advantage in total yards (199-12) and first downs (7-0).

The impressive display from Moore continued in the second period as he leaped over a defender in the left corner of the end zone to catch an 11-yard touchdown pass from Fields on third-and-6, extending the Bears’ lead to 17-0.
