US Exploring Options for Evacuating Americans from Israel War Zone
In an interview on NewsNation’s “The Hill,” National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby discussed the United States’ efforts to evacuate Americans from the war zone in Israel. Kirby stated that the US is currently evaluating alternatives for safely removing Americans from the country, including the possibility of utilizing commercial flights departing from Ben Gurion airport.
Although details on these alternative options were not provided, Kirby urged Americans in Israel to “stay tuned” for further developments regarding available evacuation options. He acknowledged that many Americans residing and working in Israel consider it their home and may not wish to leave. However, Kirby emphasized that the US is actively exploring additional options for those who are unable to utilize commercial or ground routes due to feasibility or affordability concerns.
Kirby mentioned ongoing discussions with airlines to explore potential alternative routes out of Israel. The spokesperson assured that more information on these options would be available by the end of the day on Wednesday.
While the ongoing violence in Israel has claimed the lives of at least 22 American citizens, the White House also confirmed that 17 Americans are currently unaccounted for. Kirby suggested that a very small number of these individuals may be held hostage by Hamas, and efforts are underway to work with Israeli authorities, the families of hostages, and unaccounted for Americans to secure their safe return.
In light of the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the State Department has raised the travel advisory level for Israel, urging Americans to reconsider their travel plans to the country.
