Alongside two mirror photos of her in the gold bikini, Kardashian captioned the post with the words, “All that glitters is gold,” which are lyrics from the song.
This post came shortly after the passing of Smash Mouth’s former lead singer, Steve Harwell, due to liver failure.
While some people viewed Kardashian’s post as insensitive given the circumstances, the remaining band members showed support by liking posts that defended her.
In the comments section on Instagram, Kardashian was criticized for being “shallow” and “tone deaf.”

However, the band didn’t seem to have a problem with Kardashian’s reference. They quoted her post and added the next line of the song, “only shooting stars.”
In response to comments on Smash Mouth’s post, the band agreed with others that the post wasn’t insensitive.
“People saying ‘too soon’ really didn’t know Steve, and it shows lol,” commented one individual.
