Looking for an affordable trip to paradise? Well, you’re in luck. A resourceful mother, known as ‘The Travel Mum’ on TikTok, has shared an incredible hack for securing return flights to the Maldives for under £300. But, of course, there are a couple of catches.
Jenna Carr, or ‘The Travel Mum’, has a massive following of 372,100 on TikTok. She informed her followers that they can explore the breathtaking beaches of the Maldives for a total cost of just £275 ($338). The trick? Turn the journey into an 18-night adventure, with a few stopovers along the way. In a subsequent blog post, Jenna updated the price, revealing that the trip could actually be mastered for just £248 ($304). She described the journey as “epic” and shared some “disgustingly cheap” prices for flights.
Here’s the breakdown of the itinerary: Spend two nights in Sofia, Bulgaria, followed by six nights in the Maldives. After that, enjoy four nights in either Abu Dhabi or Dubai, four nights in Jordan, and finally, spend a night in Bergamo before flying back home. Additionally, the itinerary requires a one-night stay at a hotel near the airport in Abu Dhabi before flying to the Maldives.
When asked how she discovered this hack, Jenna Carr explained that she and her family are always on the lookout for affordable flights to popular destinations. She detailed the specific steps in her blog post, revealing that travelers can start by flying from London Luton to Sofia, Bulgaria, with Wizz Air for just £17 per person. The flight departs on November 2 and lasts for three hours and ten minutes. Carr advised her followers to spend two nights in Sofia before taking a five-hour flight to the UAE. This flight costs only £43 and departs at 1.55pm, arriving at 9.05pm.
To enjoy a six-night stay in the Maldives, Carr suggested booking return flights from the UAE for just £133 per person. However, there’s a catch. The flight to and from the Maldives lasts for five hours and 20 minutes on a no-frills Wizz Air plane. The reason behind this is that the Wizz Air A321 aircraft is not certified to cross the ocean directly, so it has to follow a longer route over Pakistan and India. The outbound flight departs from Abu Dhabi to Male, Maldives, at 11.45am and arrives at 6.05pm. The return flights depart at 7pm and arrive at 11.40pm.
While in the Maldives, Carr advises staying on an inhabited island, such as Maafushi, rather than a resort island, to save even more money. Hotels on inhabited islands can be as low as £38 ($46) per night. After enjoying the Maldives, travelers can extend their trip with a four-night stay in the UAE. To do this, they can fly from Abu Dhabi to Aqaba, Jordan, for just £17 per person. It’s important to note, however, that Jordan shares borders with Israel and Syria. The Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel within three kilometers of Jordan’s border with Syria. Despite this, the Jordan Tourism Board assures tourists that Jordan remains a safe and welcoming destination.
Continuing with the itinerary, Carr suggests flying from Aqaba to Milan Bergamo for just £25, a four-hour and 35-minute flight. After a short stay in Italy, travelers can finally make their way back to the UK with a two-hour flight from Milan Bergamo to London Stansted, costing only £13 per person.
Since she shared her video on TikTok, it has gained over 90,000 views, and users are eager to try the hack for themselves. However, Carr admits that she hasn’t tried the route yet. She had planned to go in November but is now waiting until her pregnancy is more established, possibly in January. For those who want to follow in her footsteps, Carr advises packing lightly to avoid luggage charges and always booking flexible accommodation. She also recommends having travel insurance for peace of mind. With this hack, paradise doesn’t have to break the bank.
