Destin Beach Officials Confirm Riptides Not Responsible for Ryan Mallett’s Untimely Passing at 35

Ryan Mallett, the former NFL quarterback, tragically passed away at the age of 35 in a drowning accident while vacationing in Destin, Florida. Contrary to misconceptions spread by the media, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Mallett did not die in a riptide. Destin Beach Safety clarified that there were no riptides present in the area and emphasized that yellow safety flags, indicating medium hazard conditions, were in place at the time.

Sheriff Eric Alden stated that Mallett’s death appears to be a tragic accident unrelated to the surf or tides. According to investigators, Mallett encountered difficulties while attempting to swim to a second sandbar about 150 feet offshore. Lifeguards discovered him unconscious and unfortunately, their lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. Mallett was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead at the Destin emergency room.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office released bodycam footage of the incident, showing the police officers responding to the scene. Mallett was accompanied by his girlfriend, Madison Carter, during their vacation. The couple had recently made their relationship public on Facebook.

Mallett, who had a successful college career with the Arkansas Razorbacks, went on to play in the NFL for teams like the Patriots, Texans, and Ravens. He even had the opportunity to back up the legendary Tom Brady during his time in New England. Both Brady and his former coach, Bill Belichick, expressed their condolences and shared their deep sadness over Mallett’s untimely passing.

In addition to his NFL career, Mallett had recently taken on a coaching role at White Hall High School in Arkansas. The school district expressed their sorrow and asked for prayers for Mallett’s family, students, and colleagues.

It is undoubtedly a tragic loss for the football community, as well as for Mallett’s loved ones and those whose lives he impacted. He will be dearly missed.
