DeSantis Cements Hope: Humanity Experiences Unprecedented Safety from Climate Change

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) asserts that humans are now safer than ever from the threat of climate change. He strongly criticizes the Biden administration’s attempts to address climate change while introducing an energy plan that prioritizes oil and gas extraction.

During a speech in Midland, Texas, DeSantis, who is aiming for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, outlined his intention to implement various policies to reverse efforts to combat climate change. These policies include increasing the cost of electric vehicles, boosting domestic fossil fuel production, and withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement.

DeSantis argues, “We’ve observed a deliberate campaign to instill fear when it comes to global warming and climate change.” He accuses Democrats of attempting to limit people’s aspirations.

He further states, “They are even urging younger generations to have fewer or no children, based on the false notion that children will render our climate and planet uninhabitable — and that’s simply incorrect.”

DeSantis makes these claims just weeks after Florida was hit by a Category 3 hurricane, resulting in record-breaking floods. Scientists have warned that climate change is contributing to more frequent and severe storms. The UN Secretary-General recently cautioned that we have not done enough to curb planet-warming emissions and that we have unleashed a catastrophe.

Contrary to scientific concerns, the Florida governor rejects the notion that his state is at risk. He argues that his energy production policies offer a practical approach to reducing global emissions, dismissing warnings of future climate disasters as fear tactics.

DeSantis emphasizes, “We are accustomed to dealing with hurricanes and fires in Florida.” However, he expresses disagreement with Joe Biden’s claim that he is more concerned about climate change in the next decade than a nuclear war.

Notably, the governor’s podium displays a sign reading “$2 in 2025,” symbolizing his promise to lower gas prices to $2 per gallon if elected president. The Biden campaign criticizes DeSantis’s proposals, labeling them as deeply unrealistic and filled with climate denialism that characterizes the MAGA Republican Party.

“To understand what DeSantis’s plan would mean for the country, voters need only look at his own state. His agenda has led to soaring energy costs for his constituents, and natural disasters are causing billions of dollars in damages,” comments Ammar Moussa, a spokesperson for Biden’s reelection campaign, as told to The New York Times.
