Passengers aboard Delta Air Lines flight 1437 had to evacuate using emergency slides after the aircraft encountered a blown tire upon landing in Atlanta.
The flight made a safe landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, as confirmed by a Delta spokesperson to Insider.
The spokesperson added that during landing, one of the aircraft’s tires blew, leading to the evacuation of passengers via emergency slides.
According to FlightAware, a flight tracking platform, the plane departed from Richmond, Virginia at 3:56 p.m. and arrived in Atlanta, Georgia at 6:20 p.m. The spokesperson stated that there were approximately 190 passengers on board, with at least one reported customer injury.
Passenger Bruce Campbell praised the Delta Air Lines staff for their exceptional organization and professionalism during the evacuation. He also provided 11Alive with a photograph and video of the plane’s emergency slides.
“The Delta team demonstrated extraordinary organization and professionalism without any panic. There were around 100 ground safety personnel and 20 vehicles present, showcasing an amazing response,” Campbell told 11Alive.
“We apologize to each individual for this experience – the safety of our customers and crew is of utmost importance,” stated the Delta Air Lines spokesperson. The spokesperson confirmed that Delta Air Lines will collaborate with aviation stakeholders and conduct an internal review of the flight.
