The 21st series of the competition is set to begin in style on Saturday, with 15 celebrities making their debut on the dance floor and discovering their professional dance partners. Once the pairings have been announced, they will perform a special group routine. The star-studded lineup includes comedian Les Dennis, broadcaster Angela Rippon, Love Island star Zara McDermott, and Channel 4 News presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy. Soap stars such as Ellie Leach, Bobby Brazier, Nigel Harman, and Adam Thomas are also part of the lineup. Paralympic champion Jody Cundy, tennis player Annabel Croft, radio host Nikita Kanda, actor Layton Williams, comedian Eddie Kadi, TV presenter Angela Scanlon, and actress Amanda Abbington complete the roster.
Sherlock star Abbington expressed her excitement about competing on the show, stating that she had wanted to do it for years and finally decided to take the plunge at the age of 51. She wanted to have some fun and embarrass her children, as that’s what moms are supposed to do. Shirley Ballas, known as the Queen of Latin, will return as the head judge, alongside Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke. Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will also resume their roles as co-hosts. The launch show will feature a captivating group number with the judges and professionals dressed in striking black and white outfits.
Revel Horwood revealed that the opening number will have all four judges competing against each other, and he will perform a backward walk-over assisted by two male dancers. Reigning champion Jowita Przystal, along with runners-up Gorka Marquez, Carlos Gu, and Vito Coppola, will return to the show. Other professional dancers in the lineup include Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Graziano Di Prima, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, and Nikita Kuzmin. The new series begins on Saturday at 6.35pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
