Daniel Ricciardo’s Hand Injury Could Possibly Require Surgery in F1

Daniel Ricciardo, the AlphaTauri driver, may miss several races after breaking his hand during practice for the Dutch Grand Prix. Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, revealed that Ricciardo has flown to Barcelona for potential surgery to treat the injury. The operation would be performed by Javier Mir, a renowned MotoGP traumatology specialist based in Barcelona. Mir has previously operated on Lance Stroll, allowing the Aston Martin driver to race just two weeks after breaking his wrists. Horner acknowledged that the recovery time for Ricciardo’s injury is uncertain, but he remains hopeful that the driver will be back on the track soon. However, given the proximity of upcoming races such as the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Singapore, and Japan, Ricciardo’s participation in those events appears doubtful. Ricciardo had only recently returned to Formula One after sitting out the first 10 races of the season and expressed his frustration at having to take more time off due to injury. In Ricciardo’s absence, the team has called up Liam Lawson, the official reserve driver, to make his Formula One race debut. Despite a less-than-ideal performance in practice, Horner believes that Lawson has shown maturity and expects him to improve with more seat time.
