Dan Rather discusses the state of journalism: ‘Prioritizing entertainment over reporting’

A Detailed Analysis of an Anchor

Dan Rather, the illustrious former CBS-TV anchor and current cover star of People magazine:

“People made a documentary about me, and now we’re waiting for someone to purchase it. Unfortunately, we have not found a distributor yet.”

Intrigued, I asked him about his thoughts on the current state of affairs in the United States.

“These are dangerous times. We are under attack. It has become a battle for the soul of America, and there are fewer people voting than ever before. Can we even guarantee the preservation of our constitutional republic? I am deeply troubled by the state of our country.

“People are now afraid to voice their opinions. They don’t want to get involved. Instead of thinking, ‘What can I do today to help my country and myself,’ they choose to remain silent. However, I am an optimist. I believe that the United States is resilient and will overcome this. It’s just that, at this moment, fear has gripped the nation.

“Journalism has undergone significant changes. I watch news from all channels, one after the other. Reporting has become more about entertainment than providing the facts. Large corporations control 80% of the national news distribution, making it challenging to find meaningful news stories worth mentioning.

“These days, I reside in Texas with my wife, family, and grandchildren. I still have all my mental faculties intact. Recently, I visited New York after a two-year absence and was reminded of its greatness. It’s easy to forget how incredible the city is. It’s a place filled with energy and vibrancy. If you are fortunate enough to live there, you must remind yourself of how lucky you are.”

Dan Rather believes that journalism has changed since he retired.Follow Google News
