Court docs reveal JPMorgan’s role as Epstein’s advisor for Google accounts

Newly disclosed emails have shed further light on JPMorgan’s close relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, revealing that the bank went out of its way to accommodate him and secure lucrative clients, including Google and its co-founder Sergey Brin. The US Virgin Islands, which has filed a lawsuit against JPMorgan, presented these emails in court to support its claim that Epstein played a significant role as an “advisor” to the tech giant and Brin. The emails, dating back to 2006, show Mary Erdoes, JPMorgan’s current CEO of asset and wealth management, urging her colleagues to set up a team in New York specifically to manage Epstein’s accounts. Another email from Ann Borowiec, a former managing director at JPMorgan, revealed that a New York team had been selected to work with Epstein on business opportunities related to the termination of Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts for the Google founders. The emails also hinted at close communication between JPMorgan and Brin’s family office, with Brin’s personal fortune being one of the bank’s largest. JPMorgan responded to the allegations, acknowledging its association with Epstein as a mistake but denying any involvement in his criminal activities. Google and Brin have not yet commented on the matter. The court documents also revealed an email exchange involving JPMorgan’s CEO, Jamie Dimon, in which he worked with Epstein on the acquisition of investment management firm Highbridge. The emails suggest that Dimon and Epstein were in close contact during the acquisition process, though Dimon testified in a deposition that he had no dealings with Epstein and was unaware of his status as a JPMorgan client until his 2019 arrest. Epstein was a client of JPMorgan from 1998 to 2013. The lawsuit between JPMorgan and the US Virgin Islands is ongoing, with the territory seeking a settlement of at least $190 million, alleging that the bank benefited from Epstein’s sex trafficking activities while turning a blind eye to his crimes.
