Cory Booker Reveals Urgent Need for Change: Why He Believes It’s Time to Act

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez is rapidly losing support from fellow Democrats as he faces new bribery charges. The biggest blow came on Tuesday when Cory Booker, the junior Senator from New Jersey and a longtime supporter of Menendez, joined the chorus of voices calling for his resignation, as reported by Politico. Booker stated, per the New York Times, “The details of the allegations against Senator Menendez are of such a nature that the faith and trust of New Jerseyans, as well as those he must work with in order to be effective, have been shaken to the core. I believe stepping down is best for those Senator Menendez has spent his life serving.”

On Tuesday morning alone, at least 10 Democratic senators called for Menendez to resign, according to the Hill. Alongside Booker, these senators include Tammy Baldwin, Bob Casey, Jon Tester, Jacky Rosen, Elizabeth Warren, Martin Heinrich, Mark Kelly, Michael Bennet, and Amy Klobuchar. Prior to them, Democratic Senators John Fetterman, Sherrod Brown, and Peter Welch had already called for Menendez’s resignation. Despite the mounting pressure, Menendez remained defiant as recently as Monday, maintaining his innocence and claiming that the $500,000 in cash found at his house was legitimately earned.
