Cops Share Exhilarating Encounter: Armed Woman Fires Shots, Saved by Bulletproof Glass

In a shocking incident, a woman opened fire in the lobby of a police station in Connecticut. However, no one was injured as the bulletproof glass prevented any harm. The police have charged the woman, Suzanne Laprise, with attempted murder and other crimes. According to a police report obtained by Hearst Connecticut Media Group, Laprise repeatedly exclaimed “kill me” as she was being handcuffed. Reports suggest that she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was armed with an illegal high-capacity magazine. She fired multiple shots at the unoccupied front desk window, but none of them were able to penetrate the bullet-resistant glass.

Police attempted to negotiate with Laprise, but she continued to fire shots at them. In response, an officer fired back at her. Eventually, Laprise put her gun down and was subdued using a stun gun. She was then arrested and taken to a hospital for evaluation. The authorities did not provide details about the type of firearm used in the shooting. According to the police report, a witness stated that Laprise had been at a Bristol sports bar just hours before the incident. The witness claimed that Laprise had said she planned to go to the Bristol Police Department and either have them kill her or shoot them. The witness suggested that she seek mental health treatment and go home to rest, but Laprise drove towards the police department instead.

The Bristol police commended the officers for their heroic actions. In a statement on X, they praised the officers’ calm, poise, and professionalism, which prevented any loss of life or serious injuries. This incident occurred almost a year after the community was rattled by the ambush shooting deaths of two Bristol police officers. It also coincided with the implementation of new state gun-control laws, which impose stricter penalties for possessing high-capacity magazines holding more than 10 rounds, in response to the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown.

Laprise was released from the hospital into police custody the following morning. She appeared in state court, where a judge reduced her bond from $3 million to $1 million. Laprise, a mother of three adult children, had no previous encounters with the law and is an active volunteer at her church. She was previously employed by a state agency that assists developmentally disabled individuals for over 20 years. One of her children has Down syndrome. Laprise faces charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and breach of peace.
