Containment Established for Brush Fire in Moreno Valley

A massive brush fire erupted in a canyon to the north of Moreno Valley, scorching 437 acres of land and unfortunately destroying at least one home. As of Saturday, firefighters had managed to contain 30% of the Reche Fire.

The Reche Fire was first reported around 1 p.m. on Friday in the vicinity of Reche Canyon Road and High Country Drive, as confirmed by the Riverside County Fire Department. Responding to the emergency, multiple engine and hand crews from different departments, including the Riverside County Fire Department, Idyllwild Fire Protection District, and Cal Fire-San Bernardino County, rushed to the scene. The crews were met with a fast-moving blaze, tearing through medium brush.

The origin of the fire is an area with relatively low population, consisting of both single-family houses and mobile homes. However, the flames were heading towards a larger community near the Badlands.

An evacuation order was promptly issued for residences south of Reche Canyon, north of Alta Vista Drive, west of Locust Avenue, and east of Reche Vista Drive. The order was later reduced to a warning at approximately 8:10 p.m. on Friday. Additionally, a neighboring community received an evacuation warning earlier in the day, which remained in effect throughout Saturday morning.

To combat the rapidly spreading blaze, at least six Cal Fire air tankers and six water-dropping helicopters were deployed at its peak. These aerial assets effectively slowed down the fire’s progress, allowing ground crews to close gaps and gain control.

As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown and under investigation.
