Colts Quarterback Anthony Richardson Suffers Concussion during First Half against Texans: Key Matchup Update

The Indianapolis Colts’ rookie quarterback, Anthony Richardson, unfortunately had to be ruled out of Sunday’s 31-20 victory against the Houston Texans due to a concussion he suffered in the first half.

Richardson was forced to leave the field and head to the locker room early in the second quarter while the Colts’ defense was on the field. At that point, Indianapolis had a 14-7 lead.

Gardner Minshew took over for Richardson once the Colts regained possession. The experienced backup quarterback orchestrated an impressive six-play, 76-yard drive that ended with running back Zack Moss celebrating in the end zone. Minshew completed both of his pass attempts for 51 yards during this scoring drive and finished the game with a notable stat line of 19 of 23 for 171 yards and one touchdown.

It appeared that Richardson may have injured his head when he hit the turf after scoring a 15-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Colts head coach Shane Steichen mentioned in a post-game interview that he believed the injury occurred during that play, as reported by the Indy Star.

Despite the potential injury, Richardson remained in the game for the Colts’ next possession. Unfortunately, that drive quickly ended in a three-and-out.

According to Steichen, Richardson acknowledged his symptoms and reported them himself, showing responsible behavior, as noted by the Star.

It’s certainly disappointing to see Richardson’s promising performance cut short. He managed to score the first two touchdowns of the game. Richardson finished the day with 56 passing yards (6 of 10) and 35 rushing yards.

Last week, Richardson was dealing with knee soreness and missed the final three plays of his first NFL start. Although he wasn’t listed on the injury report for Week 2, it seems that he encountered new health issues.
