MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) have formed a strategic partnership to enhance trade and economic zone operations in the Philippines. The collaboration includes a Data Sharing Agreement for access to the Electronic Tracking of Containerized Cargo (E-TRACC) System, which aims to streamline the flow of goods and improve efficiency and security.

The BOC, responsible for overseeing goods at ports of entry, introduced the E-TRACC System through Customs Memorandum Order No. 04-2020. This system allows for real-time monitoring of containerized goods’ movements within the country.

Peza, on the other hand, regulates business operations within economic zones. Through the data-sharing agreement, Peza will have access to the BOC’s E-TRACC System data, enabling real-time monitoring of containerized goods and individuals within and outside economic zones.

The partnership is expected to enhance efficiency, transparency, and security in cargo transportation to and from these zones.

The agreement includes provisions for data privacy, security, storage, and retention of confidential information.

Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio expressed confidence that sharing secured data with Peza will lead to improved trade facilitation. Peza Director General Tereso O. Panga echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of digitalization and automation to enhance ease of doing business and facilitate cargo movements.
