Kraft Heinz, the popular cheese brand, is recalling approximately 83,800 cases of individually wrapped Kraft Singles American cheese slices. The recall is due to a potential choking hazard with the plastic wrapping, the company announced on Tuesday.
The issue stems from a problem with a wrapping machine at one of Kraft Heinz’s plants. As a result, a thin strip of plastic film could potentially remain on the processed cheese after it is opened, posing a risk of choking or gagging, the company explained.
The discovery of this issue came after receiving several consumer complaints. Six consumers reported choking or gagging incidents after finding the plastic stuck to a slice. However, no injuries or serious health issues have been reported so far, according to a statement released by the company.
Kraft Heinz has addressed the problem by fixing the responsible machine and inspecting all other processing machines to ensure their proper functioning, as stated in the announcement.
