A year ago today, on July 13, 2022, a 60-year-old chiropractor was arrested in Virginia and is currently being held in an Orange County jail. The arrest came after he was charged with molesting seven female patients in Irvine, according to prosecutors.
The accused, Lincoln Esguerra Carillo, is facing seven counts of felony sexual penetration through fraudulent representation of professional purpose, four counts of sexual battery involving an unconscious person, and a dozen misdemeanor counts of touching an intimate part of another individual. The charges were filed by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Carillo was apprehended in Virginia last week and was subsequently transported to California on Monday. He is currently being held on a $1 million bail and is scheduled for arraignment on Friday, as per the DA’s Office.
If convicted, Carillo could face a maximum state prison sentence of 24 years.
Prosecutors allege that Carillo worked at Twins Chiropractic in Irvine for approximately four years. During that time, he treated a female patient multiple times for chronic neck pain between April and May 2021. It is claimed that he sexually assaulted the woman during seven of her visits. The woman reported the assaults to the Irvine Police Department in May 2021.
During their investigation, Irvine police discovered six more victims of sexual assault who had received treatment from Carillo at Twins Chiropractic between January and August 2021. One of the victims was a woman who sought chiropractic care after being involved in a car accident.
Authorities believe that Carillo had connections to several chiropractic offices in different locations such as Artesia, Los Angeles, Fountain Valley, Seal Beach, Long Beach, Irvine, Orange, Upland, Cerritos, Costa Mesa, Placentia, Garden Grove, Riverside, and Herndon, Virginia.
Due to his extensive network throughout Southern California and the East Coast, authorities suspect that there may be more victims. Those with additional information are urged to contact Irvine Police Detective Nate Ridlon at [email protected].
“Dr. Carillo took advantage of the trust we place in our medical professionals to prey upon his victims,” said Irvine Police Chief Michael Kent. “I am grateful for the courage of the brave victim who came forward and exposed his pattern of abuse.
“A significant amount of investigative work was done to identify and interview Dr. Carillo’s patients in order to locate additional victims and present a strong case to the district attorney,” Kent added.
