China’s Diplomatic Reaction to Israel-Hamas Conflict: Urges Peaceful Resolution to Escalating Hostilities

BEIJING — China urges immediate ceasefire in Israel-Hamas conflict and calls for “establishing an independent State of Palestine,” as stated in the recent Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcement on Sunday.

The Chinese foreign ministry emphasized the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine as the fundamental resolution to the conflict.

In their online statement, China described the situation as an “escalation of tensions and violence between Palestine and Israel.”

Notably, China did not mention Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that controls the Gaza Strip and is classified as a terrorist group by the US and European Union.

According to NBC News, at least 700 people in Israel have lost their lives since Hamas militants infiltrated the country and kidnapped numerous individuals, including civilians. Israel has responded with counteroffensive strikes on Gaza, resulting in a death toll of 370, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

The Chinese foreign ministry called on all relevant parties to exercise restraint, end hostilities, and protect civilians to prevent further deterioration of the situation.

Furthermore, the statement emphasized the urgent need for the international community to take action, increase efforts to resolve the Palestine question, facilitate the resumption of peace talks between Palestine and Israel, and strive for long-lasting peace.

China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, expressed stronger condemnation of violence and attacks against civilians in the developing conflict on X (formerly known as Twitter).
