The following day, he further extended his lead by finishing almost 6 minutes ahead of Pogacar in the toughest mountain stage of the race. Pogacar, exhausted, admitted defeat, stating, “I’m dead.” Despite winning the penultimate stage on Saturday, Pogacar’s efforts were in vain as Vingegaard maintained an insurmountable lead of 7 minutes and 29 seconds going into the final stage, which was primarily a ceremonial stage contested by sprinters.
“We need to exercise caution and avoid any unnecessary risks,” Vingegaard cautioned on Saturday. However, he expressed his joy at securing his second victory in the Tour de France, describing it as an amazing achievement. The final stage was won by Belgian cyclist Jordi Meeus in a thrilling photo finish with Jasper Philipsen, Dylan Groenewegen, and Mads Pedersen. Meeus, elated with his victory, stated, “It was my first Tour.
