Celebrities from upcoming Disney film, ‘Haunted Mansion,’ skip red carpet premiere in support of strike movement

The highly anticipated world premiere of Disney’s Haunted Mansion was an unprecedented event in Hollywood, as it proceeded without the presence of its star-studded cast, including Jamie Lee Curtis and Danny DeVito. This unfortunate turn of events was a result of the industry-wide strike initiated by SAG-AFTRA, which represents the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

A number of prominent actors, such as Tiffany Haddish, LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, and Dan Levy, were slated to grace the red carpet at the theme park’s Haunted Mansion ride. However, due to the strike, the actors were unable to attend the event, leaving the premiere devoid of its leading stars.

In a display of solidarity, Academy Award winner Jamie Lee Curtis showed her support for the strike. She shared a video of her visit to SAG-AFTRA, capturing the members as they assembled picket signs in unity. Curtis expressed her admiration for this display of solidarity, saying, “The click click click of solidarity. Amazing. And I’m going to join them and help them as soon as I pick up my T-shirt.”

Curtis joined thousands of fellow performers on the picket lines, marking the largest entertainment industry strike in sixty years. This significant strike has the potential to disrupt productions and may endure until the end of the year, as warned by Succession star Brian Cox. Notable figures like Jason Sudeikis from Ted Lasso and Susan Sarandon from Thelma & Louise were also seen supporting the cause on the picket lines.

Additionally, renowned celebrities including George Clooney, Halle Berry, and Alec Baldwin have expressed their solidarity with the striking members of SAG-AFTRA.

The strike was triggered by the failure to reach an agreement between the US union and Hollywood studios after more than a month of negotiations. Actors are demanding better pay and increased protection for their rights concerning artificial intelligence (AI). If the strike persists, it could have far-reaching consequences, affecting film festivals such as Venice and Toronto, as well as high-profile awards shows like the 75th Emmy Awards.
