A man from Riverside has been arrested for his involvement in the theft of jewelry worth nearly $74,000 from a Kohl’s department store in Seal Beach on August 31, according to officials.
The arrest of Brandon Libardo Bustos-Bermudez, aged 30, took place on Friday during a robbery investigation at a Kohl’s store in Chino. He was later taken to Orange County Jail and charged with burglary, grand theft, and conspiracy to commit a crime, as stated by the Seal Beach police in a late Saturday statement.
On Friday at 4:30 pm, the Chino Police Department responded to the Kohl’s store located at 4093 Grand Ave. A store loss prevention officer had detained several suspects for suspicious activity.
The store officer identified one of the suspects from a “Be On the Look Out” alert circulated among Kohl’s stores in the area following the commercial burglary in Seal Beach on August 31.
Upon the arrival of Seal Beach police detectives at the Kohl’s in Chino, the suspect’s involvement in the Orange County jewelry theft was confirmed. He was arrested and transported to the Seal Beach Police Department, as per officials.
In a statement on Saturday, Seal Beach police Lt. Julia Clasby said, “During a Miranda interview, he admitted involvement in the commercial burglary in Seal Beach on August 31st and confirmed he was one of the suspects depicted on the Seal Beach Kohl’s surveillance footage.”
The theft of jewelry from the Kohl’s store in Seal Beach, which amounted to $73,877, was reported on September 1. Surveillance cameras captured the incident and provided detailed descriptions of the three male suspects working together to commit the crime.
