MANILA, Philippines—The Asian Games journey of Aaron Bado came to an abrupt end on Monday.

Bado suffered a defeat in the men’s 51kg class against Thitisan Panmot of Thailand, with the referee stopping the bout in the second round due to a cut above Bado’s right eye. The punch from Panmot was ruled as the cause, but on replay, it appeared to be an accidental clash of heads.

Unfortunately, Bado joins Aira Villegas and Irish Magno as the third casualty for Philippine boxing in the Asian Games.

However, the Philippines had some victories in the boxing events, with Eumir Marcial, a bronze medalist in the Tokyo Olympics, and Mark Fajardo both securing impressive wins.

Fajardo, making his Asian Games debut, knocked out Dorji Wangdi of Bhutan in the first round, while Marcial showcased his skills by outclassing Dalai Gadzorig of Mongolia in the light heavyweight division.

In the coming days, Carlo Paalam, a silver medalist in the Tokyo Games, will compete against Jordan’s Abu Jajeh Mohammad in the Round of 32 of the men’s 57kg division. Nesthy Petecio, another Olympic silver medalist, will begin her medal quest in the women’s 57kg category against top seed Lin Yu Ting of Chinese Taipei on Friday.
