The man, Daniel “DJ” Rodriguez, was part of the Telegram group “PATRIOTS 45 MAGA Gang” and had falsely believed that Donald Trump had won the 2020 presidential election. Rodriguez, who had traveled from California to the nation’s capital, has now been sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison, as reported by NBC News. In February, the 40-year-old had pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy, assault with a dangerous weapon, and obstruction of an official proceeding, according to CNN.
Rodriguez, who had boasted on the Telegram group about shocking the police officer, gave a “rambling” 20-minute speech before his sentencing. In this speech, he referred to himself as an “American supremacist,” expressed his grievances about inequality in the US, and stated that life has always seemed unfair to him. The officer who was Tased, Michael Fanone, also spoke at the sentencing and criticized the lack of remorse shown by the defendants.
