Two individuals from Florida have received felony convictions and sentencing for their involvement in storming the US Capitol during the January 2021 insurrection. Michael Steven Perkins, a 40-year-old resident of Plant City, was sentenced to four years in prison in a federal court in DC, while Joshua Christopher Doolin, a 25-year-old from Lakeland, received a sentence of one year and six months. Both individuals were found guilty of felony civil disorder, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, and disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds. Doolin was also convicted of theft of government property, and Perkins was separately convicted of assaulting a federal officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon and engaging in acts of physical violence on the restricted Capitol grounds.
Doolin and Perkins, along with co-defendants Joseph Hutchinson and Olivia Pollock, were arrested on June 30, 2021. However, Hutchinson and Pollock, after tampering with or removing their ankle monitors, managed to evade authorities, leading to bench warrants being issued for their arrest. Another co-defendant, Jonathan Pollock, remains at large, and the FBI is offering a reward of up to $30,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction. Furthermore, he swung the flagpole down and hit two officers in the back of their heads. Doolin, on the other hand, acquired a crowd-control spray canister and a riot shield from the Metropolitan Police Department and the US Capitol Police, respectively. He then joined the rioters in pushing against police officers inside a Capitol building entrance passageway, trying to force their way in. Since January 6, 2021, over 1,100 individuals have been arrested for their involvement in the Capitol breach, with more than 350 people facing charges of assaulting or obstructing law enforcement.
